Life Lately

I could probably spend hours updating you on everything we have been up to since my last post (which was WAY too long ago) but I think this blog will probably end up with mostly picture updates.

Both boys are doing great! Carter continues to amaze us with his vocabulary and "wittiness" - he is so funny and makes us laugh every day. He remembers almost everything we say and will repeat everything we say, even if we are not talking to him! He can count to 10 (sometimes to 12 or 13) but often starts with 3. Not sure what happened to 1 and 2?! He knows his full name is Carter De Koster and will tell you he is from Orange City, Iowa. He knows most of his colors and will be happy to tell you what color everything is if you ask. He knows almost every animal and animal sound and his new favorite hobby is making snowmen outside with daddy. And.....he is, for the most part, completely potty trained!! He does have an occasional accident if he is playing with friends and forgets to tell someone if he needs to go. He has taken an interest in coloring lately and has inquired about play-doh...but we haven't ventured into this yet because I (very type A) am not sure how I would handle it if he mixed the colors together. Anyone who knows me well understands the potential dilemma here :)

Jude is also doing well - and growing very quickly! He is a very "healthy" boy as our doctor called him at his 6 month check-up! He weighed 18 lbs. 6 oz. (65th %) and was 27.5" long (86th %) at his last appointment in March. We weighed him today (May 5th) and he was up to 21.2 lbs. He is a full pound heavier and almost 2" longer than Carter was at this age. He LOVES to eat and continues to have a great temperament (as long as he's fed! :) ) We started some baby food after he turned 6 months and he has taken to that very well. Homemade broccoli, peas, beans, squash, sweet potatoes, and applesauce have been his starter foods. (Made with a food processor and ice cube trays...and lots of help from Grandma!) He has also continued to be a great sleeper for us - down around 8:00 PM and up around 7:00 AM. He has two bottom teeth and  spends most of his time rolling around the floor from room to room! No crawling yet, but it probably won't be long.

And now on to pictures - how we have been spending our time these past couple of months:

Our snowman "Larry" - He was devastated 2 days later when Larry melted!

Pump Parts Anyone? Avert your eyes if this is too much, but had to document what we spend a good deal of our time doing - washing! :) (Jon is such a trooper! A real man can assemble pump parts in 0.2 seconds :) )

Shower Project

OK - I really did think I would be better at keeping this blog updated. :) It's amazing how busy our two little boys keep us...along with full time jobs, church obligations and activities, small group, friends, family, and most recently...house projects! When we built our house, we had a shower "surround" put in our master bathroom with intentions to take out the surround and tile it someday. Well, that "someday" took place over the past 5-6 weeks and as of yesterday, it is DONE! Jon did a wonderful job and we feel so blessed to have such a "handy man" in our home. Now my job is to clean the inch of cement/tile dust from every surface of the house over the next week or so. Here are some pictures from start to finish. I didn't get a picture of the original shower with the surround, but I'm sure you can picture it! :)

Potty Training

Here is a short video of Carter's first accident wearing "Big Boy" underwear. He was surprisingly happy about it during the video - he actually did cry for quite awhile because he wanted "new pants" immediately. This morning when Jon was getting him dressed, Carter saw his jeans for the day (new ones) and he ran away from Jon screaming, "No, No, No, I not want those pants!" (He thought they were his jeans from last night!) Overall he really is doing very well and will easily have this potty-training thing down before preschool in September! Way to go buddy!

Carter

Pictures will never fully capture life with a 2-year-old! :)

Don't worry, this was completely supervised!! :)

Proof of supervision (Daddy style!)

A common scene at the DK household

How I found him during nap time on Saturday! (He does have a bed :) )

So much for our "Big Boy" talks!

Jude

I like the idea of picture updates - A picture is worth 1,000 words, right? :)

Brothers!

5 Months

It's hard to believe Jude is 5 months old TODAY! The time has gone so fast, and he continues to be a wonderful baby. Just for my records, here are some of his stats from his 4 month appointment (yes, I am a month behind):

Weight = 15 lb. 11 oz (60th %)
Height = 25.59" (70th %)
Head Circumference = 16.54" (60th %)

He has a very mild temperament and is generally a very content baby - usually happy to sit in our lap and watch Carter  run laps around the house. We have been extremely lucky - he is a great eater and has not shown any intolerance to anything I eat. We have just started to introduce rice cereal and he loves it! I remember being SO anxious to start cereal and baby foods with Carter - not so much this time around. Milk is so much easier! :) He continues to be a great sleeper as well. He generally goes to bed around 9:00 PM and will normally wake up around 7:00 AM (He started this pattern around 5 weeks of age and has not looked back - and yes, we are very very lucky! :) ) He just started teething this week (a little sooner than Carter) and has been less than happy for the past several days (5 sleepless nights in a row, specifically) - hoping those bottom two teeth pop through soon!

Carter is doing great and continues to LOVE being a big brother.  He loves to talk to Jude, sit on the floor with him, put his pacifier in, and often tries to comfort him if he is crying. He is about 3 weeks into potty training and he has now progressed from Pull-Ups to big boy underwear almost all day (with the exception of nap time and nights.) He loves to build with legos, do puzzles, color, play with cars, airplanes, trucks, or anything that has wheels, and sing "Jesus Loves Me" as loud as he possibly can, and as often as he can! He also LOVES tractors and anything else farm related. He may or may not be the best iPad operator in the house as well. :) He is definitely in a "stubborn yet hiliarious" stage. At times he will deliberately disobey us, even after we have asked him to stop doing something, and will generally look right at us and smile as he continues to misbehave - it's lovely! :) He makes us laugh every day, though. Yesterday, he came up to me as I was pumping (sorry if that's too much info) and said, "Mommy, are you a cow???"

We get asked quite often if the two boys look alike - sometimes I think they do....other times I don't think they look alike at all. Carter definitely had a much rounder head, but Jude is starting to fill out. You be the judge! :)
